♡ Mohegan Island ♡ Posted at 4:00 PM 0 comments (+)

Sorry I haven't posted in a week or so. I was off on vacation in Maine. I went to Monhegan Island and collected sea glass for jewelry I'm going to make. It was lovely there. The people were sweet and lived in little beach side cottages. Their gardens were rich with all kinds of bright flowers. I did plenty of hiking with Sophia. The island's forest and seaside cliffs were absolutely breath taking. We climbed up waterfalls, trudged through marshes, and skipped over foamy brooks. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the northern tip of the island where seals like to swim. Sophia couldn't tolerate the rainy weather combined with the rugged trails. I didn't mind getting my feet wet or scaling the rock walls. I never let bad weather bother me. It was chilly on Monhegan. It's sweltering at home, I wish I could have stayed up there longer. I bought two cozy sweaters from L.L. Bean in Freeport. I'll write a review for them soon.

I graduated high school last Sunday, it's still hasn't sunk in that I've finished public school.

Enjoy a few pictures from my hike, I'll upload more to my flickr.

♡ Modcloth Follow the Cedar Boot (Medium Brown) Review ♡ Posted at 7:30 PM 0 comments (+)
I ordered these boots from Modcloth last August. They arrived a few days after I placed my order. I was so excited to get them after waiting several months for them to be restocked. These boots are a lovely shade of brown. They're calf-high and vegan leather.  They pair well with long socks and stockings. Their design is adorable, my dream boots. The heel height is perfect. They're cozy. They make a lovely clicking sound when I walk. I wear these to school everyday. They're a perfect fit. I'm in love with them, but there's one major issue. The soles of these boots are smooth cedar wood, no treads. I have slipped and fallen countless times while wearing these. On ice in the winter, these things were death traps. The soles cracked apart in the late winter  and I had to have them redone with rubber treads. They're perfect now. I want to say every penny I spent on these was worth it, but I'm very disappointed in the original quality of the soles. I paid $60 for these. I thought I was paying for excellent quality, not soles that would only last for five months

♡ Happy Second Anniversary Brett ♡ Posted at 5:00 PM 0 comments (+)
I can't believe it's already our second dating anniversary. The time has flown by since Brett and I first met. He makes me so happy, he's my best friend and boyfriend. I'm so happy I had the courage to make friends with him  a little over two years ago. For our anniversary Brett and I shared cakequettes and strawberry soda. Cakequettes is so good, I'm lucky to have their bakery just down the road from me. I got strawberry, red velvet, and Brett's favorite, vanilla. The little cakes are adorable.

♡ Keeping Fit ♡ Posted at 5:30 PM 0 comments (+)

Exercise

To keep lean and low stress I run five miles every afternoon, with six pound weights every other mile on a grass track to prevent shin splints. This takes me about 40 mins to an hour depending on how well I slept the previous night. I aim to get a solid eight hours of sleep a night but when I'm squeezed for time between work or school it's difficult to get to bed early. I exercise to tone my body and feel more confident in myself. On the weekends, in the morning, I run five miles before breakfast to strengthen my endurance. In the same day I will do my usual afternoon running. I never run midday because my skin is more light sensitive than most people, I burn terribly. Back when I only ran one or two miles a day I used to do a variety of floor exercises such as push ups and crunches to tone my stomach. I never noticed much improvement from doing them. Many people say that running doesn't slim you down, but increasing my running has drastically changed my body and happiness. If you can commit yourself to running for at least 40 mins a day you will shape up with in a week or two.

Diet

I do my best to drink plenty of water through out the day to flush out toxins and keep hydrated through my running. For breakfast I usually have pancakes with blueberries, strawberries, or bananas with caramel chai or green tea. Between breakfast and lunch I get hungry and have a banana, apple, or whole grain crackers. I only eat whole grain bread because it is the most nutritious bread for you. My lunch varies, I usually have a banana and grape granola salad or a banana and peanut butter sandwich. In the afternoon I have another small snack of fruit or crackers. For dinner I have rice, beans, fish or chicken, and a side of salad. I do not count calories or portion my meals. I eat what is good for me until my hunger is satisfied. I avoid salad dressing, dairy, and anything high in preservatives, fats, and oils. I avoid dairy because milk and yogurt upset my stomach. Dairy also gives me acne. To make up for the lack of dairy in my diet I take calcium supplements.

♡ Mochi & Eowyn's First Storm ♡ Posted at 4:30 PM 0 comments (+)
These are my kittens, Mochi and Eowyn, when they experienced their first thunderstorm a week or two back. Mochi and Eowyn are brother and sister. They have pure white fur, misty green eyes, and pink ears. Mochi has enormous double paws and long fur. He is a bit dopey and prissy. He is growing into a massive cat. Eowyn has short hair, dainty paws, and a spastic personality. She is much smaller than Mochi. They love to chase mice, play, sneak outside, cuddle, and eat anything you leave unguarded. Even pancakes. I don't know what breed or mix they are. They look like angoras. My boyfriend gave Mochi to me for Christmas. My boyfriend's sister Summer wanted Eowyn to be her pet, but it turned out that Summer wan't much of a cat person so my sister Sophia got Eowyn for her birthday not long after Christmas. The kittens are seven months old tomorrow. Their birthday is November 10th.

♡ Artist Discovery - João Ruas ♡ Posted at 4:00 PM 0 comments (+)
Sao Paulo artist Joao Ruas illustrates dark surreal images riddled with symbolism. He works mainly in graphite. I love the faces of his figures and his personal style. He illustrates comics and editorials. You can see more of his work on his website here. I aspire to do similar work in my future career as an illustrator. I'm captivated by Raus's illustrations.
